Roll Away!

Today was a much better day!!

The painters showed up at about 7am and promptly started banging on the house! I guess that was my wake up call!!! LOL! They are doing a GREAT job!! My house looks a ton better and all that has been done so far is some scraping, sanding, caulking, and priming! I can't wait until they start putting the new paint on!!!

Makenzie did really good in therapy today! To be quite honest I can't recall what we worked on! That was 13 hours ago!!! I do know that we got her in the gait trainer and she tooks some really nice steps! She is still favoring her leg. She is testing the waters now though and she has been setting it down putting a bit of weight on it and then lifting it up. When distracted she will stand on it! Little DIVA!!!

I tried to just enjoy today for what it was... another day to love my kids! The boys played a ton and trashed the kitchen making Ramon noodles! I am not sure how that is possible but they did and I didn't say anything!

I had to send my truck off to the shop on the back of a flatbed this afternoon. I really hate that! Please pray that it isn't something horrible! It seems like the second you deplete the bank account something always jumps out and bites you! At least in my life it does! Oh well, it is nothing that a hug at the end of the day and a gentle reminder that we have been through so much worse can't fix!

Makenzie and I spent a good amount of time rolling around on the floor today! She gets really stuck in her hips so I worked a lot with the side to side. She is really good at turning her head but then she forgets to bring her feet and she gets stuck trying to move them over. She did great today!! I layed on one side and then I had Kaleb walk into the room and she would roll over to see him!!! It was soooo cute! At least four time she rolled ALL the way from one side to her back to the other side ALL be herself!!! The rest I had to do a bit of prompting but not all that much!! GO MAKENZIE!! Answered prayer! New HOPE!

Please as always keep praying! Tonight also pray for Christian and his mommy as they are in a new, scary, different place tonight! It is a cause for celebration as he is no longer in the PICU but it also change and that is hard! I remember the first night that we spent in rehab after the PICU! It was hard! It was lonely and quite scary as there where not doctors and nurses everywhere watching Makenzie like a hawk! Please pray!!! Believe.... Prayer works!!!!

A Day Like Today

Today was a long day! Makenzie did ok!

Makenzie did not go to bed last night until almost 10:30pm. I was up until 2am! Why you may ask? I need Pam time. I NEED some time with out being called mommy, being hung on, listening to the boys fight (oh summer is great), driving here and there, making meals and formula, dosing meds, cleaning, and the list goes on and on. So "my time" was delayed by 4.5 hours.

Then the sun rose WAY to early this morning and well inevitably.. I was still tired! My fault, yes I know!

Nothing good ever comes out of being tired and today was proof! I was in a funk all day! I was frustrated with Makenzie! Frustrated with the boys and nothing got done! When I got in my truck to take the boys to the skate park and it died half way down the driveway and would not start... yes my truck is out of order...I stood cursing it in disbelief!

It is days like today that I feel so tired of my life! It is days like today that I just look at my daughter and want to tell her to GET UP! Days like today that I feel sorry for myself. It's a good thing that days like today don't happen very often!!!

My son asked me the other day why he doesn't get to play sports. I had no answer for him. Yes, there is an answer. That answer being that I am just one person and there is a ton about playing a sport that Makenzie can't handle. The weather being the most major one! I feel sorry for my kids on days like today. My kid just wants to play soccer! He knows how much fun it is as he was dragged to his big brothers practices and games for 4 seasons! I love to see my kids play sports! He saw and knows what he is missing out on. I can't give him that answer! I don't want to break his heart!

Most of the time I am a cup half FULL kind of person! The past 2 years have been hard. However, for the most part I have been able to see Gods blessings and wait patiently for his answers! Sometimes the redundancy of my life just leads to a day like today!

I am 100% ok with this! Days like today also help me gain perspective on what I do have! Who I love! Why I do what I do... over and over and over! Why because I LOVE and CARE very deeply for my family!

Makenzie is in bed, 2 of the boys are at a friends house and the other is quietly wathcing Cartoon network! ME TIME!!!! With a little time to think in peace and reflect on my day of negative thoughts and frustration I am able to bring my life back into focus.

I love snuggling with my little girl! I love to see her smile, I love that when I hold my arms out she rolls onto her side to get close to me, I love that all I have to do is make a silly face to hear a gut wrenching laugh, I love her pouty face and her new temper tantrums, I love to see my boys skate, I love to see them slide down the ramp on their butts when they fall ( its really a very funny site) I love to see them gain new Independence everyday! I JUST LOVE MY LIFE!

What I do everyday is not normal everyday for most. It is NOT easy, and sometimes I have days like today! BUT in the end.... I am HAPPY and at PEACE, continuing to trust that God has a plan! Tomorrow will NOT be a day like today because today is DONE. I am going to bed NOW!!!

Please keep praying for Makenzie! Pray that God would send his healing hand to her brain and send us new hope! Pray that he would refresh us with his presence, Pray that he will reach down and finish what man can not! PRAY!

Flat Feet

Makenzie seems to be doing better and better everyday!

Today during therapy we worked on rolling and weight bearing! She did great! With a little help she does very well with rolling! We have not worked with Makenzie on this for a while... you would never know! Her therapist was also able to get her on flat feet! YEAH!!! She is so sensitive on her feet for some reason! It could be 2 weeks with out therapy, improved sensation and growth of nerves from stem cells, or maybe tight hamstrings or heel cords. Who knows. The important thing is it is slowly getting better!

After therapy I decided to try putting her in her gait trainer and she did great! It wasn't as pretty as past attempts but much better then a few days ago! On Tues when we tried she cried, flexed and lifted her feet off the floor and was left dangling! So I will take not pretty!! She walked across the family room about 5 times! Smiling and laughing all the way!

The boys went to the skate park this afternoon and had a blast! It was the perfect day as it was overcast and a bit cool! Makenzie loves to watch all the the kids zoom past her!

Tonight at bed time Makenzie gave me a run for the money! I layed with her for 2 hours and she was just as wide eyed at 6pm (normal bed time) as she was at 8pm when I gave up and brought her back downstairs! Little stinker! Finally at 10pm I rounded everyone up and Makenzie was tickled pink that she was going to bed with her brothers! 5 min later she was sound asleep!

I am seeing so much personality! She is so smart! Is it the Cells? Your guess is as good as mine! I would say yes! She has been so much more aware and turning into quite the little Diva! I LOVE it!

I also confirmed our dates for the Napa center today and sent in our flight request to Miracle Flights! I can't believe that trip is creeping up on us so quickly! I am getting so excited!

In other news..lol... Kaleb got his cast taken off yesterday! It was bitter sweet! After not moving his wrist for 7 weeks he was in quite a bit of pain last night. He seemed to be doing much better today though. He still has the rod and pins in his arm. Those will be removed in 3 weeks! Yeha!!

Please keep praying! Believe.. Prayer Works!!!

Back in the Groove!

Hey all!

Not to much going on around here!

It is once again Monday and back to the grind!

Makenzie had therapy today and did really well! You can tell she has been out of the groove for a while but she seems to be doing good at playing catch up! We worked on rolling for a while and she was activating muscles today that she hasn't before and using some good control! Her foot is still bugging her! We got her to bear weight on it today with a flat foot so that is good!

She is also feeling a lot better. She came down with a cold 2 days ago and it seems to be all but gone! Thanks for all of the prayers! I noticed a few things with this cold. One her nose ran. Normally all of the snot just stays in her sinuses and we end up on ABX because it will not drain. None of that this time. Another is that she has been WAY less gaggy! She has been doing a great job swallowing the yuckies instead of choking on them! Go Makenzie! Oh the stuff we take for granted!

Please keep praying for Princess Makenzie! Pray for those cells! I will start making more final plans this week for our trip to CA this summer for Suit therapy! I can't wait! She is so ready!! Pray! Believe.... Prayer works!

Short and Sweet!

Short, sweet and to the point tonight! I am exhausted! It has been a very busy 3 weeks and I think it is catching up with me!

Makenzie had a good day! Around noon however she started sneezing! This usually always means she is getting a cold. Well by the time she went to bed she was pretty stuffy! Please pray that she gets over this fast! She was exposed to a cold all week so this doesn't surprise me but it still doesn't make it any more fun! At least I know it isn't some funk from Costa Rica!

I gave her little feet several good rub downs tonight and right before bed she put her foot on the floor and walked a bit for me! She laughed and was so excited! She still won't put her whole foot on the ground flat but we are getting closer to being back to normal! Baby steps! Yeah! Prayer works!

Please keep praying for those little cells to be working and that this cold comes and goes REALLY fast!!! Like maybe by the time she gets up tomorrow!!! Yeah yeah pipe dreams!!! Miracles happen everyday! Pray!!!

Pain

WOW! Busy is an understatement!

Makenzie is doing really well! She is back to therapy and doing VERY well! All of her therapist are very impressed at how well she is back into the swing of things!

She had speech twice this week and was pushing her switch with BOTH hands! In PT today she push up in prone and her left wrist did NOT roll over!!! Little things, but HUGE miracles!!!

She is however not wanting to do much weight bearing. I am not sure what is the root, It could be a few things. Pain, bruising, or swelling from the IV in Costa Rica, lack of weight bearing while gone for 2 weeks, or that she is gaining more sensation and she is not sure what to do with it! Please pray for her to be ok with standing and walking soon! This has happened a couple of times in the past and she work through it! Pray that she gets over this soon!

We started seeing a Orofacial Myologist this week as well. Makenzie has a very small palate and she doesn't have much lip closure. We spent about an hour taking measurements and trying a few things and going over some exercises. She gave me some little dots to stick to the top of her mouth to encourage her to explore with her tongue. It worked! She has been playing with it all day today and trying to close her lips! We will be seeing her for about 15 weeks!

Please keep praying for Makenzie! Pray for restoration and for the Stem Cells to go to the right places!!! Pray for weight bearing! Pray! Believe.. prayers works!

Monday, July 20, 2009

Well today was pretty uneventful! I am having a hard time getting back into the groove after 2 weeks of "vacation".

Makenzie did great in therapy today! She is still much looser and her ATNR is seems to be a lot less frequent. She is also flexing much less! She also showed me several time today where her eyes and nose where! I love it when she does things more then once!

I spent a good amount of the morning on the phone with contractors to get bids for the painting of the exterior of my house. I met with 2 companies this evening and once again God shines through! We had a hail storm several weeks ago and they included money to have part of the house painted. Well the company that came today offered to paint the WHOLE house for what the insurance company gave us! AMAZING! I feel so blessed by their generosity! This is a huge burden that has just been lifted of my shoulders!

We are also going to be getting some bids to have hard flooring put down on the main level of our house. Makenzie is getting so good at walking in her gait trainer but has no where to walk. She is not strong enough to push it on the carpet and that leaves one hallway in the entire house that she has access to on her own! No bueno! Please pray that we can get a great deal on this as well!!

I am so consumed lately with Gods love and grace! It seems like every time I turn around he shows me his face! Please keep praying for Makenzie to respond to the Stem Cells Therapy! It is so hard to play the wait and see game! I know that God has a plan and I am trying really hard to wait patently! HARD doesn't even begin to describe it! Please also pray for a new friend! I love meeting new people! However, in the cyber world it usually mean that there has been some sort of tragedy! In this case that stands true! Shauna's little boy Christian fell into a pool 2 weeks ago and is in the PICU with a global brain injury! Oh how I remember those days! Please visit his site listed to the right! I would not wish this journey on ANYONE but what has happened can not be changed and now all we can do it pray! Please keep praying!!! Believe... Prayer Works!

Time to Relax!

Makenzie got up about 8:00am and I noticed that her food bag was still full! She only got half of the food she was supposed to get! I am not sure what happened exactly but if I had to guess it started beeping and I turned if off while 98% asleep! Oops! That usually would not be the worst thing to happen but today was not the best day for it! She missed 4oz yesterday because of the trip back. On top of that travel is hard on her.

I started her monig feed thinking about how much I could get into her today when she puked! I cleaned her up and not even 20 min later more! AHHHH! She got 8 oz in. I guess some is better then none! At this point I just start a drip of pedialite hoping that the vomiting was from being a bit dehydrated. She tolerated that great and there was no more vomit!! YEAH!! It is a bit after midnight and she seems to be doing just fine with her regular night feed! Sigh!! Pray that it stays that way!!

We had a great day otherwise just hanging out! The boys got home about 11am! Makenzie was so excited to see them. They were so cute with her too!!

I worked with her a bit on the bolster in the afternoon and she had a great time! I was able to get both of her hand completely open and weight bearing onto the edge with out any stretching or effort at all! AMAZING!! Then Kaleb came and sat on the bolster right in front of her so I picked up her hand and showed her how to push him off! She laughed so hard! He got back on and told her to push him off! She lifted her arm all the way up and put it on his back! I helped the rest of the way but she was so proud!!! I was so excited for her!!

After the last 2 weeks it was so nice to relax!!!

She is sleeping peacefully getting some rest for the week ahead.. back to life! LOL! Please continue to pray for those little cells in her! Pray that God would guide them to the places that will bring the most healing!!! Believe.... Prayer Works!!!!!

Costa Rica Journal

WE MADE IT! 7-11-09

We are in COSTA RICA!!!! It was a long day of traveling but Makenzie did GREAT!!! SHe is such a little trooper!!!

We were met right off the plane by a gentleman who helped us get our bags and make it through customs! Well the other way around but what ever! Right as we got to the baggage claim the people from ICM were there to great us in English!!! AHHHHH!!! They helped us to the van and with in 15 min we were at the hotel and breathing much easier!!!

The hotel is BEAUTIFUL!!! It is CLEAN and the people are great!!! We have a full kitchen with a microwave and 2 bedrooms!!

We have already met several people and their families that are here for treatment! Every one is so kind!!!

I unpacked, made formula... with my $4 bottle of water... the money exchange thing is a bit rough!!! LOL!! Then Makenzie puked all over her daddies white shirt! I knew that was going to happen! It is hard on her to travel!

She is soundly sleeping right now!!! Pray for a good nights sleep and no more puke!!!

They gave us a great binder with all kinds of info in it! It includes a little spanish chart... I will be needing that!! LOL It also has all the times of our appointments,,,, so here it is:

Monday 9am apointment at ICM... not sure what that is about but...
12pm IV placement at hospital under General sedation.
*Everyone we have talked to has said the hospital is great! They will be drawing blood to test as well and seperating Makenzie's serum to mix with the donor cells.

Tues 10:30am 1st injection

Weds 10:30am 2nd injection

Thurs 10:30am 3rd injection

Fri 10:30am 4th injection

Please hit your knees at these time for Makenzie! Only God can Finish what man has started!!! Thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers!!! With out ALL of you we would not be here today!!! THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart!!

SUNDAY FUN 7-12-09

Today was another wonderful day!!! We did a lot of resting and socializing! I do however miss my boys! It is hard this time because I don't really have the option to pick up the phone and call!!

We got up and had breakfast here. They serve it free every morning. They had some "normal" stuff and also some quite interesting but good food. There is no bath tub so I carefully showered Makenzie and we were ready for the day!

The people here are amazing!!! We sat by the pool and chatted for a good long while thing morning!

Then we headed out down the street for some Chineese food as the resteraunt at the hotel is closed on Sunday. It was such a fun experience! There are some english speaking nationals here but not many! The money conversion is a bit crazy but they will change it right here at the hotel so it has worked out ok.

When we got back Jodie and her gang where just getting in from the airport! WOW!!! Lets just say it is going to be very hard to say goodbye!

We just got back from dinner and Makenzie is sleeping soundly! She has been so good today!!! Thank you for all of your prayers! She didn't have any stomach problems today and I even got in some extra as she will not be able to eat after 4:30am and will only be getting clear fluid tomorrow as she vomited after General sedation 3 weeks ago.

Tomorrow we go in to ICM to meet the doctors and ask any questions we still may have. I must say I don't have many! Then at 12:30pm we will be going to the hospital to have the IV placed! Everyone has told me how wonderful it is and amazingly I am ok with it..... for the moment!! Please pray for Makenzie tomorrow at 12:30pm Mountian time. I have felt all of your prayers and they mean so much!!!

Pray Pray Pray Pray Pray!!! Believe.... Prayer Works!!!

FOR THE BOYS 7-13-09

I will post about our day a bit later. Makenzie had the IV put in and it went well. They put it in her foot and she is not happy about it!! I just spoke with the doctor to make sure Tylenol wouldn't mess up the cells and he said no so I gave her some! Please pray that she can find sleep!!! That being said I need to take care of hopfully getting her off to dream land. I hope to give details after that happens! Pray for sleep!

So to my boys...before you head to bed.... your sister is fine!! She is smiling and giggling in the other room! I love you and miss you and hope you are having fun!

WORLESS AT 4AM! 7-14-09

CIMA 714-09

I have given up on trying to go back to sleep so I thought what better to do then blog!! LOL!! I posted some pictures in the post below so check them out!!!

Makenzie did great today!!

We got up and I gave Makenzie the last bath/shower she will get until friday night! That should be fun to do dirty hair!! OOh my! Then we got so breakfast and sat for a bit and chatted by the pool! Our appointment was at 9. The clinic is about 1.5 blocks away from the hotel so we met Jodi and Charlie out front and walked!

San Jose is a bit crazy! Oh the simple things we take for granted!! It has been beautiful and even though it is rainy season here we have only seen a few drops of rain!

Our first appointment went VERY well! We filled out some paperwork and then we got to do meet with one of the doctors! Right from first glance I felt great about ICM! The doctor sat and talked with me for about 20 min and snswered ALL of my questions! He even answered a few I didn't know I had!!

I asked him about all of the different protocol ideas there are out there about the best way to give Stem Cells and the answer to each made a ton of since! WOW!! I am still amazed!

We came home and relaxed for about an hour and then got into ICM's van and headed to CIMA Hospital. It was beautiful! They checked us in and a nurse came and got Makenzie and I first. They would only allow one other person so I think Chris was a bit bummed!

At this point I started to feel a bit scared! There waas only one nurse where we were that knew english! They took all of her measurements and when the doctor from ICM got there they took her back..... with out me!!! At this point I thought I was going to loose it!!! I felt all of the prayers and knew that God was there and that he has brought us here so all would be fine! It was!

They tried to place the IV in her arms but her veins were to small so they put it in her foot. They also took a few vials of blood to test and then they will mix they cells with her own serum.

Makenzie was SCREAMING!!! I picked her up and she stopped for a brief second and then started in again! She was blotchy faced, coughing, and her lip was even quivering! I have never seen that before! I thought it was from the drugs as I have heard that can be a reaction kids have sometimes but she just wouldn't stop! Then she started pulling up on her leg and I realized that it much be from pain! I asked the one nurse that spoke english for some meds and they brought her some tylenol! When we left she was still scream but the second we stepped out the door and into the lobby guess what happened..... yep... you guessed it... she stopped!!! Smart Girl she is!! LOL!

As soon as Lil Charlie was out and ready to go we hopped back in the van and headed back! A big sigh of relief!! The hard part is no OVER!!!

Makenzie started complaining again about her foot at about 6pm and would not go to sleep!! She just cried! I called the doctor on his cell phone and he PICKED UP!! AMAZING!! He said that giving her pain meds was totaly fin and would not affect anything! In fact he offered to bring us some!!! WOW!!!!! I had some tylenol so I gave her some and she drifted of to sleep about 9pm. I fell aleep with her and woke up to her wimicing about 12am. I gave her more meds and she and I fell back to sleep. I woke up at 3:30 am after sleeping for 7 hours ready to go!!! AHHHHH! I think I will be taking a nap this afternoon!!!

Makenzie gets her first Stem Cell injection today at 10:30am! Please pray that God would send the cells to the areas that Makenzie needs them the most!!!! Pray pray pray pray!!! Charlie... Makenzize's little friend will also be recieving Stem Cells then as well so send up prayers for him too!! God hears!!! Please give him something to listen to!!!

Thank you for EVERYTHING!!!! Keep checking the side bar for short updates throughout the day!!! It's gonna be a good one I just know it!!!

STEM CELLS IN THE HOUSE 7-14-09

“But may all who search for you be filled with joy and gladness. May those who love your salvation repeatedly shout, “God is great!” But I am poor and needy; please hurry to my aid, O God. You are my helper and my savior; O LORD, do not delay!” (Psalm 70:4-5, NLT)

Dear Heavenly Father,
Many days we feel poor and needy. We are in need of a helper and a savior day in and day out. I thank you, Lord, that when we look to you and search for you, that you can be found, and that you can fill us with great joy and gladness. You are great, God, and are able to move many mountains. Therefore, we ask again that you would hurry to Makenzie’s aid, and that you would cast pieces of the mountain of brain injury in her life into the sea. We ask that you would not delay, but that your healing touch would manifest in Makenzie’s life and in our lives is someway today.
In Jesus’ Name,
Amen

Today was another good day!

Makenzie had her first Stem Cell injection. It went very well! She didn't think that it was so much fun as they had to remove the tape and wrap to get to the port or that they held her leg so she wouldn't rip the IV out of her foot! However we got it done!!!

Jodie, Charlie, Lil Charlie, Makenzie and I took a walk around the block today! CRAZY!!! There are very few side walks and when there it one it is so unmantained that you can't push a chair on it or there are cars parked acrossed it! We saw a man selling fruit from a cart behind his bike and the delivery guy from SUBWAY getting off of his motorcycle which he had parked on the side walk..lol! Oh there is so much we take for granted here!!!

Chris went to the super market today with some others on the ICM bus while Makenzie and I relaxed!

When they got back we went to the hotel resteraunt for dinner with Jodie and family. It was late and Makenzie was very cranky! I had to leave with her early as she just couldn't take any more.

She has been consistantly been having trantrumsa at bed time! Once she figured out where I would put her to bed (after the 1st night) she pitching HUGE fits! I am so glad she is expressing herself! It is exciting!

I have been up since 3:30 am so I am going to leave it at that as my eyes are VERY heavy! Please pray that we finish her treatment and safely return home!!! Pray that the IV stays in place for the week!

I have a few friends and family that have had people ask questions about Stem Cell therapy. I researched this for over a year and it is very hard to know what people want to know in a post... it would be a novel if I tried to write every peice down...so.... If you have any questions please leave them in the comments section of this post... it can be annonmous... and I will take some time to answer them in a post in the next few days. for those of you that are interested in Stems cells for your child I also have a few numbers and other resources that may be helpful1. Just let me know.

I am off to bed!! Thanks for the prayers and keep believing..... Prayer works!

A LITTLE R&R! 7-15-09

Today we did a whole lot of NOTHING! We got up and had breakfast. Kenzie and I sat by the pool for a little while and chatted. The weather here is GREAT! There are times of beautiful sun and it is just the perfect temperature! The day we got here everyone said that like clockwork at 1pm it would down pour. Not since we have been here!!!

This morning it was raining a bit when we walked to ICM. We walked really fast think that it was going to start dumping rain. It didn't! The clinic is only like a block away. They have drivers that come to pick you up in a van but it seems so much easier just to walk!

While we were waiting at ICM I was talking to one of the ladies that works there. I asked what a neighbor hood in Costa Rica looked like. She looked back at me a said "this is it"! Wow, I couldn't even imagine! She said this area was like a buisness neighborhood and that others were just like it more or less with narrower streets! Hard to imagine! There seems to be very little traffic law and pedistrians do not have the right of way!!! LOL! It is SOOO different!

I also found out that Health Care in Costa Rica is free!! I guess when you are sick it can take up to 3 weeks to be seen or you have to stand in line ALL day at the clinc in hopes to be seen! I am not feeling the socialized medicine thing! The hospital (CIMA) that we went to is private and was beautiful and is not free.

Makenzie did great with her injection today. She still cried but we got it done and it seemed a bit easier!

She was MUCH looser today. In fact her hands were wide open most of it! She had the lady at the desk a high five ( Makenzie style) and she had a great time playing with Charlie and his daddy! The two of them are so much alike!

Instead of going out to dinner we ended up ordering pizza. It worked out great and Makenzie got to bed on time for the first time since we have been here! She was so tired!!

Makenzies OT will be flying into Costa Rica tonight. We are so blessed to have such a great group of therapists!!! I can't wait for her to get here!! I am hoping that wwe can get a tour of ICM's lab tomorrow so we can see were the cells are procesed! That will be VERY interesting!!

Thank you again for all of your thoughts and prayers!! Round number 3 is at 10:30 again! Please pray!!!

CHILDRENS MUSUEM 7-16-09

Today was GREAT!!

Makenzie has been getting up at about 6am! We got up and I gave Makenzie a sponge bath and did her hair! Breakfast is ok and we sat by the pool and talked with all of the wonderful people also here with ICM.

Makenzie's OT flew in last night and met us at the clinic this morning to see what this is all about and hang out! Makenzie did great! She cried... yes... but we got it done!

We left there and came back to the hotel and sat for a bit. We then walked up to the subway and all managed to order sandwiches for lunch. Language barriers are so much fun!!! It is quite the experiance!

We decided to be tourists for the day and headed out to the Childrens Museum! We had the hotel call for a van and off we went! San Jose is very different then anything I have ever seen! You get to the top of the hill and can see hills covered with little metal shacks that are homes! Everyone of them has metal bars all of the way across the front and some even have barb wire across the top! Motorcycle seem to have the right of way EVERYWHERE! The buses are always packed with people and they are all over!!! The streets are narrow and also packed with people. Shops and homes are mixed and road side fruit stands are very common

As we pulled up to the museum our driver told us that the building used to be a prison! The museum was nicer then I thought it would be. A lot of the exsibits were broken and most of the toys the kids thought were cool I have in my living room! It was surly eye opening! They had coffee bushes and bannanas trees and showed how they processed them. They had a real helicopter and a train engine! There was a simulated earthquake that Makenzie loved and a floor piano that lit up when you stepped on it! We stad for about an hour and our driver was outside waiting for us when we were done.

Then it was rush hour and the roads where even more crazy!

We got home and got Makenzie ready for bed!

She is doing so well!!! Her OT was so suprized at how loose she was!!! She is sleeping now! One more injection and we are done and the IV comes out!! She will be soooo happy! We leave on Saturday mornig!! I am ready to get back to life!!!! Remind me in a week that I said that!!! LOL!!!

Please pray for us tomorrow! Also start praying for safe travels home!!!

AMAZING 7-17-09

We had an AMAZING day! I am so sorry but, I am going to leave you hanging as I had to pack and say many goodbyes! This place was truly incredible!! We met so many wonderful people and God's presence radiates! I posted pictures on dropshots (picture tab above) if you would like a sneak peek! Please pray for safe and easy travel! We leave for the airport at 6:30am! Pray for the cells to continue to grow into what Makenzie needs to heal! Thank you every one!! I will post tomorrow night and on twitter as the day unfolds!!

WE MADE IT HOME!! 7-19-09

Sorry it has taken so long for me to update!

We spent the last day in Costa Rica doing out last treatment and playing tourist!

Makenzie went in again at 10:30 for her last injection and to have the IV removed. She was pissed!!! However we managed ALL of the procedure in Costa Rica with out any vomit which is amazing!

We left there and got in a van and went out for lunch and to a butterfly garden about 20 min away from our hotel. It was very pretty! Makenzie enjoyed looking at all of the butterflies and green trees and flowers! The real entertainment to all of these outings was the drive there and back! It is amazing how these people live and yet they are so happy and kind!

We stopped by the hotel for a few minutes and then we left to go back to ICM for a tour of their lab! It was AMAZING!!!! They showed us all of the machine used and explained the process of screening, reproducing, and harvesting the cells. It was so clean and all of the people there were using universal precautions. WOW!!! We got to see the cells after they pulled them out of one of the machines. They were in bottles with a suspension substance. On the bottom was a little clump of cells! 300,000,000 to be exact! I was so excited to see this process in action. Makenzie's OT was also there and we sat for a bit and had question and answer time which was also great!!! I wish I could put it all in writing and maybe one of these days I will but it is sooooo much information! All I have to say is that I feel GREAT about the decision we made to go to ICM!

We then came back to the hotel and Stephanie gave Makenzie a massage and worked with her for 2 hours! Thanks Steph! Makenzie was amazing! She was putting her arm above her head. She was showing us where he eyes and mouth were on command, she arched her hips, and mover her arms and legs with her head up in all fours!! WOW!!! We are in the wait and see phase of this treatment. I am trying really hard not to read into every breath see takes but most of the things listed above she has never done!

I packed up a bit while Makenzie was playing with Steph and then off to bed Makenzie went!

We had lots of good byes to say that night! I was so sad! We met so many wonderful people! I have a e mail list so hopefully we will be able to stay in touch!!! I feel so blessed by the whole experience! I truly feel as though God opened this door and with the help of all of you we were able to walk through it! Once again.. THANK YOU!!!

We then made our trip home! We were up and ready and in the van by 6:30am and arrived at our front porch at 7:30pm last night! LONG! We just made out connecting flight after customs and immigration. Makenzie got a bath and went right to bed!!! She slept great!!

I took one look at my computer and shut it... made formula and also went to bed!! Sorry! I feel rested and hungry! LOL!! We haven't been home for 2 weeks so the fridge is empty!!! After Makenzie goes to bed I will have to get on that!

Makenzie's PT stopped by for a few minutes this afternoon to see how we were. She put Makenize on her lap and was amazed at how good she felt! She said that she is much more balanced and holding her trunk really well!! She has been flexing a lot less as well! Once again I am trying not to think about it... it is impossible!! They say you can see immediate results but most common is 3-6 months so now...we wait!!!

Keep praying for the cells to work! Pray that God would bless Makenzie with growth and finish what man can not!!! ALL OF THE GLORY TO GOD! Thanks for everything!!!

I also posted more pictures on dropshots.(photo link above) Check them out!

Children's Museums

A little R@R!!

STEM CELLS IN THE HOUSE....

CIMA

For the Boys!

Sunday Fun!

We Made It!!!

God Lives Under the Bed

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAKENZIE!!!!

We leave in the morning for Costa Rica! At $1.99 per minute on the cell phone I guess I wont be talking too much! LOL!!! I can however get incoming text messages for free... if I don't respond it is because those cost!!! I also added a Twitter bar to the side labeled Prayer Requests! I swore I wouldn't do that because I am sure you all don't want/need to know everything I do all day! LOL However during this time that I can not communicate with my family and friends I have conceeded to the tweet!!! Please check this for updates and prayer requests during our trip!! I will also be posting pictures and video on Dropshots (click here or on the picture tab at the top of the page)

If you read Makenzie's blog you will recall the issues we had a few weeks ago with her GJ tube. Everything went well and Makenzie is doing great! At the time I was VERY upset! I felt like Satan was trying to keep me from taking these trips! A close friend of mine offered that maybe it wasn't Satan but God who was watching out for us. Having this tube issue in Costa Rica would be BAD!! Well today I think God reveled his reasoning to me! Makenzie will be put under general anesthesia while in Costa Rica to place the IV catheter. It is long and will be in her for 5 days so they will also stitch it to her so it doesn't get pulled out. Had Makenzie not undergone the general here for her tube I would be a wreck right now!!! I also learned some things about anesthesia and Makenzie that will be helpful not to find out in another country! God is so Good!!! If only we could just trust that he walks before us always!!! He know much better then we do!!! He will be with us paving the way for what is to come! He has been doing it all along!! I just need to open my eyes wider sometimes!!!

We are on our way to Costa Rica in the morning and I don't think I will be getting much sleep tonight! I am praying that through cells that God put in us at birth and the knowledge that God gave to man, my daughter will be given healing! That even if it is small that it will improve her life!!! In the same breath the little story below is some of the thoughts I have had about Makenzie and who is really "handicapped". My daughter has the purest, happiest soul! Sometimes I am a bit jealous! She has no real worries! She is cared for always and is rarely ever sad! That being said however, I will NEVER give up on trying to help her regain and restore the skills needed to accomplish the most simple things in life! I love this girl with all of my heart!!! Once again please pray!!!!

~I got this story from a friend….

I read this tonight on a blog of a mother who lost her son to cancer. God always seems to show up at just the right time in so many different ways!!!

GOD LIVES UNDER THE BED

I envy Kevin. My brother Kevin thinks God lives under his bed. At least that's what I heard him say one night.

He was praying out loud in his dark bedroom, and I stopped to listen, "Are you there, God?" he said. "Where are you? Oh, I see. Under the bed..."

I giggled softly and tiptoed off to my own room. Kevin's unique perspectives are often a source of amusement. But that night something else lingered long after the humor. I realized for the first time the very different world Kevin lives in.

He was born 30 years ago, mentally disabled as a result of difficulties during labor. Apart from his size (he's 6-foot-2), there are few ways in which he is an adult.

He reasons and communicates with the capabilities of a 7-year-old, and he always will. He will probably always believe that God lives under his bed, that Santa Claus is the one who fills the space under our tree every Christmas and that airplanes stay up in the sky because angels carry them.

I remember wondering if Kevin realizes he is different. Is he ever dissatisfied with his monotonous life?

Up before dawn each day, off to work at a workshop for the disabled, home to walk our cocker spaniel, return to eat his favorite macaroni-and-cheese for dinner, and later to bed.

The only variation in the entire scheme is laundry, when he hovers excitedly over the washing machine like a mother with her newborn child.

He does not seem dissatisfied.

He lopes out to the bus every morning at 7:05, eager for a day of simple work.

He wrings his hands excitedly while the water boils on the stove before dinner, and he stays up late twice a week to gather our dirty laundry for his next day's laundry chores.

And Saturdays-oh, the bliss of Saturdays! That's the day my Dad takes Kevin to the airport to have a soft drink, watch the planes land, and speculate loudly on the destination of each passenger inside. "That one's goin' to Chi-car-go!" Kevin shouts as he claps his hands.

His anticipation is so great he can hardly sleep on Friday nights.

And so goes his world of daily rituals and weekend field trips.

He doesn't know what it means to be discontent.

His life is simple.

He will never know the entanglements of wealth of power, and he does not care what brand of clothing he wears or what kind of food he eats. His needs have always been met, and he never worries that one day they may not be.

His hands are diligent. Kevin is never so happy as when he is working. When he unloads the dishwasher or vacuums the carpet, his heart is completely in it.

He does not shrink from a job when it is begun, and he does not leave a job until it is finished. But when his tasks are done, Kevin knows how to relax.

He is not obsessed with his work or the work of others. His heart is pure.

He still believes everyone tells the truth, promises must be kept, and when you are wrong, you apologize instead of argue.

Free from pride and unconcerned with appearances, Kevin is not afraid to cry when he is hurt, angry or sorry. He is always transparent, always sincere. And he trusts God.

Not confined by intellectual reasoning, when he comes to Christ, he comes as a child. Kevin seems to know God - to really be friends with Him in a way that is difficult for an "educated" person to grasp. God seems like his closest companion.

In my moments of doubt and frustrations with my Christianity I envy the security Kevin has in his simple faith.

It is then that I am most willing to admit that he has some divine knowledge that rises above my mortal questions.

It is then I realize that perhaps he is not the one with the handicap. I am. My obligations, my fear, my pride, my circumstances - they all become disabilities when I do not trust them to God's care.

Who knows if Kevin comprehends things I can never learn? After all, he has spent his whole life in that kind of innocence, praying after dark and soaking up the goodness and love of God.

And one day, when the mysteries of heaven are opened, and we are all amazed at how close God really is to our hearts, I'll realize that God heard the simple prayers of a boy who believed that God lived under his bed.

Kevin won't be surprised at all!

Saturday we got up and headed to Disney's Magic Kingdom! They are not lying! It is truly the most Magical Place on earth!! We had so much fun! Makenzie was able to ride on all the ride there but two! She was not tall enough! LOL!! I MADE Joshua go on Splash Mountian... yes I am a mean mom! Oh man... ya should've been there to see his eyes... oh and tears on the way up the big hill!!!! After we got off the ride however... he asked to go again!!! I knew that would happen! Just had to break the ice!!! We saw the parade and did some hula hooping on Main street! We went back to the condo for a bit and headed back out for the fire works and the parade! Makenzie did great all day until the very end!! Such a trooper!

Sunday we went to the Animal Kingdom! This day started a bit rough! We wwent on the Safari and it was too much heat for Makenzie! I was about to go back to the condo. We found the Lion King Show... inside... and after that she was good for the rest of the day! We had a great time and Mount Everest was the favorite ride here!! 3 times back to back fovorite!!!

Monday was Epcot! They had a ton of stuff to do! We did all the rides and walked around the lake to see all of the different conteries! We saw a show in the America part that was great! Epcot is BEAUTIFUL!!!

Tuesday we finishe up Disney World with MGM! We saw a stunt show, a show on Walt Disney, rode the Rocken Rollercoaster... Kaleb chickened out... and the Tower of Terror! The best ride however by far was the toy story one! This was a 4D contest. You had to shoot and hit different targets! As hard as we all tried... Grandpa won both times!!! I came in a close second which I thought was great considering I was holding Makenzie and had to shoot and aim with one hand!!! That night we went to Fantasmic!!! WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! That show just sums the Magic of Disney up!!! I cried....yes I know.... I am emotional!!!

Wendsday Makenzie and I headed home and the boys went with grandma and grandpa to Kennedy Space center and to the ocean! I guess it rained a lot but they still had fun!!!

OH HOW BLESSED WE ARE!! Makenzie did great the whole trip! I did not have to leave my boys the whole time and we got to feel sort of normal for a while!! I don't care how pretend Disney is.... It was MAGIC... real magic for my family!!! THANK YOU MOM AND DAD for this trip!!! I don't think anything will ever top it!!!

Well, it is time for me to go pack... again! LOL!! I will try to post lots while we are gone!!! Please, please pray!!! God is with us and he hears! Pray that the cells they inject through the IV into her blood stream go to where they need to and form new cells to bring healing! Once again... THANK YOU ALL!!! We would not be here without each and every one of you1!!!!!

All is Well!

I am completely exhausted but I wanted to thank you for all of your thoughts and prayers for today!

Makenzie did great! It was a long haul for a 10 min procedure but that's life! They were able to put her under general anesthesia without a breathing tube or an iv so it was very quick! Makenzie was awake within about 5 min! She was sooooo cute! And for a bit loose loose loose!!! They told me to give her a kiss and then they would come and get me and I laughed and told them I couldn't leave because it would be a long time before I would see her that loose again! She was so relaxed!

She was laughing and smiling right away, She seemed a bit uncomfortable here and there but other then that great! Until she puked right before bed! I called her pediatrician and he told me to run clear fluids tonight! I wish Children's could do a better job of discharge as I always seem to have questions after I leave! We will try running formula in the morning. If she vomits again I will have to take her in to check tube placement! Please pray that is not the problem and she will wake up ready and healthy so we can get on the plane on Friday!!! Thanks for everything! Keep praying!!!
