Video of Makenzie in OT

Here is a short video of Makenzie in OT. She did VERY well! She was talking and laughing while they were playing games. She is interacting and responding so much more! Thank You Jesus! It is amazing what she has learned in the last week! She worked on eating as well! My memory card is out of room so this is all it would hold! I guess I need to clean it up. Thank You for all your prayers and support it means so much!

Hope!

Makenzie has had a great day today! She has been rolling and sitting very well today! She has also been talking a lot! In PT she responded twice with a "yeah" like sound when asked if she wanted to go down the slide again!

My friend Jenny stopped by as well today. Her son Gabe also suffered an anoxic brain injury almost 4 years ago by choking on a grape. Gabe has fought so hard to recover and is doing VERY well! He is walking, talking, and trying to potty train! His road and recovery was very similar to where Makenzie is now! Over the years Gabe has had tons of OT, PT, Speech, Hippo therapy, HBOT, Water therapy, suit therapy and much , much more!
Words can not express my appritiation for Jenny's friendship! She has traveled down this road befor me with Gabe and has been such a source of encouragement and hope! I thank God every day for bringing us together! Four year later Gabe is doing SO WELL but his journey continues and is still very intense and time consuming, but it does get a little easier!

Thank You Jesus for Gabes restoration! Thank You for Jenny and Thank You for the continued restoration and healing in Makenzie! Gods grace is so powerful! Thank You Jesus! Keep praying for these kiddos! Prayer Works!

Pine Hill Alabama Rocks!

I got a phone call this afternoon from my mother in law in Lake Charles, LA, (Granny Kay). We talked for a while and then she told me that her sister's church, Pine Hill Chapel,in Pine Hill, Alabama, had taken an offering up for Makenzie's Medical Fund. Their goal was $500 and in the end this wonderful church of around 150 members raised $2000 for our precious little girl! Thank You so much, Suzanne and The Pine Hill Chapel for giving Makenzie the blessing of continued healing and restoration options!

We are considering a few different therapies for Makenzie over the next few months. In March we will be heading back to Arizona to do another round of SIRRI. This Sensory Intagration program seemed to help Makenzie noticeably with her tracking and looking towards the origin of the noise. The goal of this therapy is to reconnect the auditory, vestibular, and visual pathways in her brain together. (www.sirriaz.com)

The other therapy is in Florida. It is called suit therapy. This is done with a tight fitting suit and bungee cords! The suit helps load the body correctly so that you can feel correct weight bearing. They can pull pressure in different places to help motivate the use and firing of other muscles! One of my friends who's child had a similar accident did this in New York and said that it was great therapy! She thinks that Makenzie is really ready for it! Also if we do not get our Hyperbaric Chamber by the time we do this we can finish up the last 40 of our 120 dives in Fl. If done with the suit therapy they have a really good package deal!

Makenzie continues to do well! She is rolling better every day and babbles more and more! She seems to be exchanging convesation and when asked to say ahhh most of the time she will respond with ahhhh or yeah with yeah and so on. it is so cute! She has been sleeping a lot better also! God is so good! Please pray for continued healing for Makenzie! She is on a roll!!!!!!

Stem Cells

Everyone has heard the contraversy over stem cell transplantation! This consept has been on the back burner of my mind from day one of Makenzie's injury. I have searched many sites and read many reports on its effectivness. The jury is still out but I did find an American Doctor (Thanks to Lindsey!!! Santana's Mommy!) that oversees the proccess with a Doctor is Mexico! It would be using umbilical cord stem cells. This is the safest cell to use because it is so immature and dosen't have much chance of graph vs. host problems being that it has not yet formed the immune coating that our cells have to make them "ours". I have not done enough research as of yet to know if this is a treatment that we would consider for Makenzie. I do I feel like a lot of information was sent our way so with God's discression we are going to persue more information on this procedure! Please pray that God will lead us in the direction he would have us go with this information. We have a consultation scheduled with this Doctor in CA on the 4th of February over the phone. It would be helpful if anyone would comment on this in the guest book or on this blog with any thoughts or questions you might have that would be good to ask the doctor! I have a ton but in talking with a few people they have come up with some that I had not thought of! It is a very cutting edge concept and way over my head so anything would be great! Making the most out of this appointment is very important!

Makenzie si doing well! She is still babbling tons and even mimicing some sounds! She also continues to roll over well with much more consistantcy! Befor we know it she will be rolling across the room! Her smile and laugh continue to brighten everyday! All of our kiddo are such a blessing!

The boys have asked to go to the rec center to go swimming this afternoon so I am going to attemt to take them after Makenzie wakes up from her nap! This could be very interesting!!! I'm sure we will have fun. Maybe even get a few swimming in Jan., in Colorado, with snow on the ground, yes we are crazy, pictures!!!!

Keep praying for continued restoration and healing for Makenzie! Pray that if God put this stem cell procedure in out laps that he will guide us through open doors and if it is not for Makenzie that he will slam the door in our face leaving no questions of wether or not we should do this for Makenzie! Thank You all!

IFSP

Wednesday, January 23, 2008
We had a meeting today with ALL of Makenie's home therapists! We went over her goals that we set for her 3 months ago. She met all of them but one!!!! She is not yet reaching amd pushing to activate a toy, but everything else she not only met but surpassed! That is so encouraging! It was also so nice to have everyone in the same room at the same time. Makenzie is so loved by all of these therapists! Thank You so much Pam, Kelly, Lyn, Stephanie, Stacey, and Anna for showing us how much you care by rearanging your day for Makenzie! It means a lot to us!!! We set up all new goals for the next 3 months and will have another pow wow then!

Makenzie is doing well!!! She is really babbling tons!!! Yesterday her OT was playing with her and she responded "yeah" to a question! Was that really what she said? I don't know, but I dont care!!!!!! She is also following directions with a very quick response time!!! We were rolling tonight and she was stuck so I told her to turn her head and immediatly to moved her head to the other side and finished the roll!!! She has also been moving her arms and fingers much more!!! Three times tonight I went to pick her up and she put her hands down to get me to pick her up! God is so good! We see him everyday in Makenzie!

I am so proud to get to be the mommy of such a special little girl and three wonderful little boys!!!! Please keep sending up the prayers for Makenzie's restoration! Believe in the Favor and Grace God continues to rain down on Makenzie as we keep receiving God's powerful blessing of healing!!!!

I can Roll!!!

Just a quick YEAH GOD! Makenzie had PT at Children's and at home today. At Children's her therapist put her on a huge ball on her stomach and she lifted her head up, pushed up with her arms and held it there for over 3 min!!!!! She has been holding her head up on her stomach for a while but for very short periods of time. So 3 minutes is GREAT! She also stood up next to a toy shopping cart and her therapist helped move her legs and when she got next to the cart we would tell her to push and a couple of times she pushed the cart forward!!! It was a great session!!! Thank You Jesus!!!!

Then we came home and she ate about 3 oz of pork and pears orally and as soon as we were done her other PT showed up. She did wonderful for her as well!!! Kenzie was very vocal and giggled while they were playing. As her PT was getting ready to leave I laid Makenie down on the mat and she proceeded to roll onto her stomach, lift her arm above her head, pick her head up all of the way off of the floor, turn it over to the other side, move her hips and legs, and BAM she is all of the way over!!! ALL BY HERSELF!!! She has also been rolling for some time now but aways with minimal help! YEAH GOD again, and again, and again!!!! The best part is that she did t 2 more times after that, also with NO help!!! She is doing soooo well! We keep seeing new stuff everyday! It is so great. Keep Praying, Keep Praying, Keep Praying!!!!! Thank You all from the bottom of my heart!!!! God Bless!

2 GREAT WEEKS

We have now been reflux FREE for 2 weeks!!! Thank You Jesus!!! Makenzie's stomache is feeling so much better. Her OT and PT were here today and both commented on how much happier she has been sense we put her on the very resticted diet. She has also been much more willing to eat food orally! Even after the break from eating through her mouth her oral motor skills have improved without much practice! She is keeping her tounge in her mouth much better and is moving it to find food in her cheeks! YEAH GOD! All of these seemingly small things are huge steps in the right direction.

We had kind of a hard day today. Makenzie's formula that was supposed to be overnighted did not arrive. Trying to stick as close to her diet as we could was difficult to say the least! Well almost impossible! UPS does not deliver tomorrow so it will not arrive untill Monday. Please pray that we can nurish Makenzie with out upseting her stomach too much and that God would keep any inflamation away and provide us insight on how to provide her with enough calories during this time when we have no control. Thank you all for your prayers!

Dietitian

We went to Children's on Tuesday and met with the dietitian. She went over what Makenzie was eating on a daily basis. She said that she had dealt with her formula before and that it was a good one. I was happy about that because I fully expected her to be dissatisfied because I had got it from a homapathy doctor. She also went over her daily calories and we were close so she came up with a few ways to get in a coupe hundred more calories and hopefully she will start gaining some weight! We also added iron because neither her formula nor her vitamin and mineral supplement had much iron in them.

Makenzie was very cranky today and slept rough last night. It seemed like there was something hurting her but she isn't sick so I hope it was just her mood for today! She didn't take a nap so she went to bed early tonight.

We have also started to feed her orally again!!!! Yeah God!!!! She is doing REALLY well. Even in her bad mood today I was able to get about 6 oz in her mouth with no gagging or coughing! Her swallow is coming much faster! I would like to start trying different textures and start working on the chewing. Her OT and I will talk about that next week. We are also having a meeting to update her IFSP with ALL of her therapists so I hope to get that on there for a goal in the next 3 months!

Over all things here are great! She is on a role as her PT put it today! Keep praying for our little angel!! She is so tough! She is coming back! This week she has been so aware this week and seems to be interacting with the people around her so much more! Pray, Pray, Pray, Pray! Thank You all so much for being such wonderfull prayer warriors for Makenzie! The impact is GREAT!!!

Thank You Jesus!

As much as I want Makenzie to sit, roll, crawl, and walk, I could not be any more excited then I am right now! Makenzie continued today with all of her new found sounds! It will be so great to hear her talk and be able to tell us what she needs! The pathways are there, now it is time to practice. It also feels like she is way more aware and really happy the last few days! It is almost like she is feeling impowered by her voice. She has even responded to a question or two with a good loud "ahhh". I don't know if it is just a coincidence but I really don't care! THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU JESUS!

We started her on a supplement 3 weeks ago called BH4 that could help with verbal skills along with a multitude of other things. I don't know if that is also a coincidence but I can't sit and over analyze everything new that she is doing! The only thing I know for sure it that God it working inside her and it is truely amazing and incredibly powerful! God is our true healer and without him hope means nothing! THANK YOU JESUS! Please continue to pray for restoration of God's beautiful girl!

I am also excited about the food sensitivity testing! The results are in and now we have new things to try with her gut! I have an appointment with her homapathy Dr. on Monday to go over the results and start to come up with a plan. Then on Tues.we have an appointment with a dietician at Children's Hospital. Please say an extra prayer for though appointment to go well! This is so important to Makenzie's healing. Please pray that God would speak through these professionals to assist in her weight gain and overall energy! Thank You all for your support! It means so much to our family!( oh, I got new batteries for the camera so new pictures are soon to come!)

Puke

Sorry it has been awhile. Makenzie has been doing alright. She is talking.smiling, laughing, and rolling! She has also been throwing up again. We went to Childrens hospital today and met with a wonderful doctor in the Special Care Clinic. She did an x-ray to make sure her bowels were not impacted. They are not. She also ran a CBC, to test her iron levels. These levels are all perfect! The other suggestion for the immediate future is a GJ Tube. Makenzie already has a G Tube. The difference is that the G part of a GJ tube goes into her stomach and the J part goes into her intestines. You have to drip food very slow with a J tube and you can bolus (faster, with more volume) with the G tube part. So she would get the best of both worlds! We could feed her slow at night without the fear of vomit and small volume during the day with less chance of reflux and vomit. This GJ tube can be placed without and sedation in the radioaligy department. Please pray for God to give us a stong feeling about this and for us to make the right decision.

Thank You Jesus

As much as I want Makenzie to sit, roll, crawl, and walk, I could not be any more excited then I am right now! Makenzie continued today with all of her new found sounds! Makenzie Found Her Voice

Yesterday was great!!! We had 3 therapies and she was in a great mood! In Pt her therapist was working with her and she made a "Ahhh" sound. We both looked at each other and couldn't figure out if we had just heard the same thing. Then we went to OT and Speech and came home to have OT here. We were in the kitchen and she did it again...... and again..... and then again!!!!! It was the most beautiful noise we have heard in 9 months! She continued to laugh and make babbling sounds all evening and would even respond to a question with a ahhhh sound!!! She also giggled a whole lot! Today was not as much but we did get giggles and she made her new sounds like 2 times. I was hoping for more but I keep reminding myself that she did this with smiling as well. She smiled here and there for a good long while and now she smiles all of the time!!! The pathways are there it just takes time!

We also got her Food Sensitivity testing back today. There were some interesting results. It came back with 22 different foods that her body may be extremely sensitive to. The big one were...banana, beef, egg, garlic, milk, peanut, soybean, wheat, almond, apricot, wax bean, canola, casein, and gluten. So now we have to take her off of all of these food for at least 6-8 weeks and try to slowly reintruduce them to see if she can handle them. We also have to put her on a 4 day rotating diet so that she doesn't get any new sensitivities! Sounds like fun huh? It is all worth it though. 4 weeks ago the only answer was surgery and today on an already restricted diet she has been almost reflux and puke free for over 3 weeks!!!! Yeah GOD!!!! Thank you God for leading us to Micheal Payne and Living Well Today!

Well my house is clean, the laundry is done, and I just finished feeding Makenzie so It is time for my head to hit the pillow and go to sleep! Thank you all for your prayers! Keep believing in God's Power and Grace in restoring Makenzie!!!! Prayer Works!!!

New AFO's

We went to Children's Yesterday and had Makenzie's blood drawn again for the food sensitivity test and it went well. They seperated the blood befor they sent it off so there should be no problems this time. I decided to go up to rehab and check to see if her new foot braces(AFO's) were in and they were! So they fitted them right then and there and sent us on our way. We had PT in the afternoon and did tons of weight bearing and checked her feet for any redness or breakdown from the AFO"s and there was none!! This is wonderful because now she is getting good support in her ankles and it also helps to take her out of some of her patterns that cause her to become stuck in certian positions. Thank you Greg for doing such a GREAT job!

The other wonderful thing that is still continuing to improve is the loosenes in her shoulders! She is getting so much movement in her arms and has been doing a ton of pushing through both arms. We are also begining to see a lot more movement from her fingers. She is opening and closing her hands sometimes even getting her fingers around a toy or my finger! She is getting good at pushing my hand away too when I try to put in her feeding attachment. It is SO CUTE!!!!!

Sometimes it is hard for me to see all of the little changes in Makenzie but more and more the people in her life have been commenting on how aware she is getting! There is no more blank stare!!! In PT today we were writting down her activities to work on over the next few days and we have now added in TELLING her what to do when she gets stuck and she has been responding. If she is rolling and she needs to bring her leg over we tell her "Makenzie bend your leg and bring it over here." and she will respond with that movement! We are so excited! Prayer work! With the Grace of God our mighey healer Makenzie continues to make huge steps forward! Please keep up the prayers. Pray for more arm movement and strength. For more laughs and babbling. For good sleep. For her oral motor skills(so we can take the g-tube out) For restoration of God's little girl back to the the way she was befor March 25th 2007! We BELIVE!!!!!!!!

Chiropractor

I thought i would post a quick update. Makenzie is doing great. She decided last night that the new bed time for a two year old should be after 3 am but she slept in until 10 and took a good nap. She went down for bed tonight at around 9:30 so i think she is back on track!

She had PT and Speech therapy today and did great in both! We are working on weight bearing through her arms and shoulders. She is doing really well on the right side and starting to show improvements on the left! This is huge stuff!!! She has also tolerated being in all fours and can support most of her weight for a short time. Crawling here we come!!!! She has also been able to lift her head up while on her tummy and can look to both sides. She is no longer lock into her shoulder which my PT says is because of the wonderful chiropractic work she has been getting for the last 2 months! The people at Saddle Rock Family Chiropractic have been so wonderful to our family! God brought us to them and they have not only offered to help Makenzie but are treating our whole family. Thank You Dr. Jess!!! (www.saddlerockchiropractic.com)

In speech we played for awhile and then worked on eating and mouth stimulation. We tried Stage 3 more chunky food and Kenzie did great! She is an her way, slowly but surely, to getting rid of her G-tube!! She has also been smiling tons and I have gotten a giggle out of her at least once a day for the last 4 days!!! Yeah GOD!!! She has also been making some different sounds. It has been so much fun to hear her voice again. She is not really"babbling" but these precious noises are happening outside of her cry!!! We love her soooo much!! Please keep praying for Makenzie! I hope to also get some new pictures up in the next few days so watch for them but for now I am off to bed! Thank You all for everything. Your prayers and support continue to bless our souls!!!

Just a quick note!

Makenzie had a great night sleep again last night! We had PT this morning and Makenzie worked on using her hamstrings to sit instead of her extention to sit. She did well. All of her OT and Speech therapist are coming this afternoon to talk about what we are going to use for a feeding plan for her. She is eating well by mouth but we have backed off on volume feeding her orally untill we can get the oral motor skills in a better place. Overall she is doing great! Keep praying for her healing!

Thankful Heart

Hello All
It is now 2008 and I have been reflecting on all of the things that I am so thankful for! It is so easy to be down and frustrated with everything life throws at you but the GRACE and FAVOR of God is so uplifting and wonderful. God is so Good and Kind. He has given or family so much and continues to provide. THANK YOU JESUS! To start with, we have, 4 beautiful kiddos, a house to live in, good schools, a wonderful church family, a outstanding super supportive extented family, unreplacable friends, access to superb healthcare, Chris's great job with Discount Tire, The Bruce Holly Fund, fabulous therapists, overwhelming understading of Makenzie's medical needs,a great Chiropractor, an incredably inteligent homapathy doctor, financial freedom to try biomedical treatments, and so, so, much more.

Makenzie is doing so well. She is really starting to giggle more! The pathways to laughing and crying are right next to each other so sometimes when she laughs she will also cry. It is so cute! The connection is THERE! She is healing! She is also starting to regain her balance! Front to back AND side to side. She is on her way to standing and walking again someday! (SOON!!)

We took a short field trip to the hospital on Thursday to have Makenzie's blood drawn for a food sensitivity test and it went great!! Well, until Sage labs got the blood. Needless to say we have to try again because they were unable to seperate the blood for testing. Hopefully we will get the new blood draw kit Monday morning and can get back to Childrens Monday afternoon to draw her blood again. This test will give us a better idea of what food her body will handle and map out how to start adding more food back into her diet. Please pray that the blood gets there in a condition that can be tested! Thank You all for your thoughts and prayers! Take a moment to gives thanks for all of the Grace and Favor God has given us on this journey!

Makenzie had a good day! She slept from 9pm untill 9:30 this morning! She had PT and did great! She was activating her tricepts and using her hips all by herself! She is such a strong little angel! She is doing a great job of putting weight into her arms and all fours is looking better and better! She can hold up her own weight for about 8 seconds! She has also been taking a lot of steps for me! Some of these are reflexive and some are not but the point is she is doing it! The more movement the better! Makenzie has also been doing a great job of holding up her head! She hasn't been dropping it as much but when she does she always brings it right back up! Thank You Jesus! You have been so good to us! Please keep praying for Makenzie's Miracle! It is here and there is still much more to come! I stand in awe everyday at God's power! He is the almighty healer! Happy New Year

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!

As we leave 2007 and begin 2008 we are reminded how precious life is! 2007 was a very trying year to say the least, but we made it through in one piece.

As I sit and reflect on LAST year my heart breaks for a family in who nearly lost their son on Christmas Day. Little Jake almost drowned in a backyard fish pond and is now fighting for his life in the PICU. We were in those same shoes last year. It seems like forever ago. Reading his mommys updates have brought me back to the day of Makenzie's injury. All of the dispair, the sounds, the smells, the doctors, the medicine, the uncertainty of what the future will bring. It was any parents worst nightmare come true. We were however not alone! God has been there from the begining and continues to carry us through. All of thoughs memories are just that..... fading away with every passing day. Each day gets a little better. God has blessed us with so many people that have walked beside us and carried us when we couldn't walk any more. We have also met many families who are walking down similar roads. This has also been a true gift from God.

Then when I think about the year ahead of us I am reminded of Gods Love. The hope that he has given me is also so overwhelming. We are so greatful for our friends, family and community in this nation and around the world! Words can not express how much of a gift you all have been and continue to be. This is going to be a year of healing, joy, laughter, family, and I am sure pain! It will be worth it! We look foward to seeing all of the powerful things God has instore for us this year and pray for restoration not ony for Makenzie but for all of Gods children. Makenzie is a very special little girl who has touched so many lifes for Jesus! I can't wait untill she can tell me all about seeing Jesus and his Angels that have been with her! We are truley blessed! Keep Praying and Believing. This year is going to be GREAT!!!! God Bless Pam
